TRAVEL HOCKEY

Our Southeast Beast travel hockey program is built on a commitment to team development, player growth, and a positive culture — not unnecessary expenses. We do not require mandatory equipment or apparel purchases, allowing families to focus on what truly matters: development. Teams receive three structured ice touches per week, including skill-specific sessions and team practices, supported by age-appropriate off-ice training and regular video analysis to sharpen hockey IQ. Every team is led by experienced coaches who prioritize teaching, accountability, and unity — creating an environment where athletes grow together, play for each other, and rise as one.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you level the teams?
The Southeast Beast Hockey Operations staff will determine the appropriate playing level for each team based on player ability, team composition, and developmental needs. Teams will be classified as B, A, AA, or AAA, and placement may be adjusted during the season if the team demonstrates readiness for a higher level of competition. If a team begins the year at a lower level and progresses accordingly, we will elevate their schedule and competitive exposure. To be classified as AA or AAA at the start of the season, a team must show clear evidence of success against similarly ranked opponents in the previous season. All 10U teams will begin at the A level to establish consistent practice and game habits, and must earn advancement to AA through demonstrated discipline, effort, and growth.
Do you make cuts?
Teams classified at the A, AA, and AAA levels will be subject to a competitive tryout process, and roster cuts may be made to ensure appropriate placement and team development. B-level teams will operate as no-cut programs, where all players who register will be placed on a team. This structure allows us to balance opportunity with competition, ensuring each athlete is challenged in the right environment for their development.
How do you pick coaches?
All head coaches must have completed at least one full season in a reputable Junior Hockey League to be considered for a lead role. Applicants who do not meet this standard must provide evidence of a minimum of five seasons as an assistant coach at the competitive level. Southeast Beast holds its coaching staff to a higher standard — especially in the South. All paid coaches are required to attend mandatory training and seminars led by our Hockey Operations staff to ensure full alignment with our development model, teaching philosophy, and cultural expectations.
Does every player get equal ice time?
At 10U and under, players will receive balanced ice time throughout the season. While benches may be shortened during late-game situations or championship moments, the overall focus remains on developing all players equally. At 12U, this approach continues with only minimal variation in ice time, maintaining a strong emphasis on individual growth and team cohesion. Beginning at 14U and above, particularly at the AA and AAA levels, ice time will be determined at the coach’s discretion based on performance, effort, and what best serves the team’s success. This tiered approach ensures that younger players develop confidence and skills, while older athletes learn accountability, competition, and team-first responsibility.
