Southeast Beast Announces Hockey Operations Leadership: Thiel and Hart to Lead Development Vision
Knoxville, TN – Monday, July 7, 2025 — Southeast Beast is proud to announce the appointment of John Thiel and Frankie Hart as the organization’s inaugural Hockey Operations leadership team, bringing together two of the region’s most experienced, respected, and development-focused minds.
Coach John Thiel, a former OHL draft pick (North Bay Centennials) and NCAA Division I athlete at Union College, brings over two decades of coaching experience, including work with players who have advanced to junior, collegiate, and NHL levels. After a career-shifting injury during his NCAA tenure, Thiel turned his focus to skills development and strength training, working with elite athletes across North America. His reputation for detail, intensity, and technical knowledge has made him a trusted voice in hockey development circles.
Coach Frankie Hart, a former standout in the Maritime Hockey League and NCAA Division III player at SUNY Fredonia, complements the staff with his own global perspective, having played professionally in both North America and Europe. He began his coaching journey with the renowned Turcotte Stickhandling School and has worked with players of all ages — including NHL talent — through his time at RHP Training Centre in Sudbury. Known for his passion, energy, and deep commitment to mindset development, Hart brings a rare ability to connect with players and push them to grow as both athletes and people.
Together, Thiel and Hart will oversee all aspects of Beast Academy and the Southeast Beast travel program, ensuring a unified and modern development model grounded in technical skill, hockey IQ, accountability, and character. Their shared belief in a player-first, purpose-driven culture forms the backbone of Southeast Beast’s mission: to raise the standard for hockey in the South and provide real pathways for motivated athletes.
“We’re not here to check boxes,” said Thiel. “We’re here to teach, to challenge, and to build complete players — from 8U to the NCAA and beyond.”
